Start planning for your winter sabbatical

October just started, but the holidays will be here before you know it. In my experience, many tech companies provide more time for employees to take breaks in November and December in alignment with cultural holidays. This is a gentle nudge to put in your request for time off in order to maximize a slower period of time at your company. Here are the upcoming dates that you can tack a few days onto:

  • November 25-29 - Week of Thanksgiving holiday

  • December 23 - January 1 - Last two weeks of the year when many companies shutdown

Kick off your planning for a mini sabbatical this winter:

1) Request the time off now.

2) Reflect on what would feel rejuvenating for you.

3) Have conversations with the people in your life to explore how to shift around responsibilities. 4) Set a budget and start putting aside money.

5) Instead of holiday gifts, ask if loved ones can contribute towards your winter sabbatical.

6) If you don't want to travel, consider how you can create a nourishing time for yourself locally.
